Two-goal Kiessling makes right headlines in Leverkusen romp

Stefan Kiessling put the furore of his "phantom goal" behind him by scoring twice and also winning a penalty in Bayer Leverkusen's 4-0 Champions League rout of Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday.

The forward headed Leverkusen ahead on 22 minutes and Simon Rolfes added a penalty early in the second half, his third goal in as many matches in the group stage, after Kiessling had been fouled.

Sidney Sam, top scorer in the Bundesliga this season, added a third and Kiessling pounced from close range as dominant Leverkusen leapfrogged the Ukraine side into second place in Group A on six points, one behind Manchester United.

Kiessling made headlines on Friday when he scored a "phantom goal" against Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga, his second-half header allowed to stand after everyone missed that it had gone in through the side netting.

Dinamo Zagreb v PSV 24.10.2013 uefa europa league

don`t know what good can we say about Dinamo lately. They changed the coach for the third time this season and Zoran Mamic is the temporary coach again. The changes of the coach have not worked before so I don`t expect it to work in one days time. Dinamo has the best group of players they had in a long time but they look much worse then before. Besides loosing in Europe they are loosing in the domestic league against fairly limited teams. The last match they lost away to Split 1:0 and barely created a chance.

 There is no confidence in the team, players are out of form and chances don`t come. The game is played with no audience but audience rarely helped Dinamo at home.

The only thing that could help Dinamo is the complacency from the visitors as they rarely showed how much they wan`t to play this competition. PSV lost the first match against Ludogorets but won away quite easily against Cernomorets. I did watch them play against Waregem away and though they are not very focused in defense they hold the ball well. They like to move the ball around the box a lot and always look for the pass on the offside line.

The team is young this season but I like how they played certain games. Dinamo usually loses these matches and PSV is just the better team.

Drogba on target as Galatasaray sweep past Copenhagen

Galatasaray's Ivorian duo Didier Drogba and Emmanuel Eboue helped the Turkish club to a comfortable 3-1 win over FC Copenhagen to move into second place behind Real Madrid in Champions League Group B on Wednesday.

Their aggressive start paid off quickly as Brazilian midfielder Felipe Melo raised the roof in the 10th minute with a powerful header.

Dutchman Wesley Sneijder found the net with a classy right-foot shot after receiving a pass from Eboue in the 38th minute.

Eboue was the creator again in first-half stoppage time allowing veteran striker Drogba to make it 3-0.

Copenhagen pulled one back minutes before the final whistle when Claudemir poked the ball past Fernando Muslera.

Aguero double fires Man City to victory over CSKA

Sergio Aguero's well-taken double fired Manchester City to a 2-1 victory away at CSKA Moscow on Wednesday which left the Premier League side in a good position to reach the knockout stages for the first time.

Aguero struck twice late in the first half after Zoran Tosic had put CSKA ahead in the 32nd minute. The Argentine quickly levelled with a low strike from David Silva's cross and then headed Alvaro Negredo's clever delivery past Igor Akinfeev.

City wasted several chances to add to their lead after the break and almost paid the price in stoppage time when only a brilliant save from Joe Hart denied Keisuke Honda an equaliser

City moved on to six points from three games in Group D, level with Bayern Munich who host winless Viktoria Plzen in a later kickoff. CSKA are third on three points.

Poor away form, with five defeats out of six, was a feature of City's group stage exits in their last two Champions League campaigns but they have now won twice on the road following a win in Plzen last month.

CSKA, in poor domestic form having lost three successive Russian Premier league games without scoring, broke the deadlock with a route one goal at the Khimki Arena.

Akinfeev pumped the ball forward, Honda outjumped Javi Garcia to flick the ball on and Serbian international Tosic, once of Manchester United, nipped in to lift the ball over Hart.

Their lead lasted all of 90 seconds, Aguero pouncing to fire home after Sergei Ignashevic had failed to deal with Silva's cross from the left under pressure from the Argentine.

City struck again three minutes before the break, Silva linking up with Negredo who deftly flicked a cross into the danger area which Aguero stooped to head home.

CSKA thought they had levelled 10 minutes from time when Ahmed Musa beat Hart with a fierce shot from the edge of the area but the whistle had already been blown for a foul on Yaya Toure.

The Khimki Arena pitch, CSKA's temporary home with the Luzhniki stadium being redeveloped for the 2018 World Cup, was passed fit to play, despite heavy rain this month which left large threadbare areas.

CSKA were ordered by UEFA to stage their home game against Plzen in St Petersburg due to the condition of the playing surface.

Tatu's late Steaua goal gives Basel the needle

 An 88th-minute goal by substitute Leandro Tatu salvaged a 1-1 home draw for bottom club Steaua Bucharest in their Champions League Group E match against Basel at the National Arena on Tuesday.

Basel had taken the lead in the 48th minute when Chilean midfielder Marcelo Diaz gave keeper Ciprian Tatarusanu no chance with a delightful curling shot from outside the area after a blunder by Iasmin Latovlevici.

The Swiss club, who beat Chelsea in their opening game, are now third in the group with four points, two behind the Londoners and Schalke 04.

Steaua, winners of the European Cup in 1986, have one point from three matches.

"The result was fair," Steaua coach Laurentiu Reghecampf told DigiSport. "Our team's attitude was very good and we won our first point, that's all that matters.

"I told the players we need to be more aggressive and not make big mistakes because we are up against very strong opponents."

The Romanians enjoyed a lot of possession but Basel created more scoring chances after finding holes in the home team's rearguard.

Basel almost took the lead in the 12th minute when centre back Ivan Ivanov's close-range shot was cleared off the line by defender Daniel Georgievski.

Tatarusanu then did well to parry an effort from Fabian Frei while Lukasz Szukala's brilliant block denied Mohamed Salah.

Behrang Safari also went close for the visitors when his shot hit the side-netting.

At the other end Cristian Tanase's shot from 25 metres was comfortably saved by Yann Sommer.

Valentin Stocker then hit the bar for Basel with a deflected shot five minutes before the break.

Steaua refused to give up and earned their reward when Brazilian striker Tatu, who came on as a second-half substitute, scored to delight the home fans.

"It was a game we wanted to win and it's a pity we missed our opportunities in the first half," said Basel coach Murat Yakin.

"But this is a positive result for us because we played against tough opponents today. Romania has quality players and a very strong championship."

The Welshman returned from a thigh injury in Saturday's 2-0 win over Malaga at the Bernabeu, coming on with 14 minutes remaining and then winning a penalty in stoppage time, which Cristiano Ronaldo converted.

Madrid head into Wednesday's match top of Champions League Group B after beating Galatasaray 6-1 in their first game, which they followed with a convincing 3-0 win at home to FC Copenhagen.
Juventus may be second in the group, but have just two points following a 1-1 draw in Copenhagen and a 2-2 draw against Roberto Mancini's Galatasaray in Turin.
Antonio Conte's side lost 4-2 at Fiorentina on Sunday, slipping five points behind Serie A leaders Roma.
However, Madrid star Ronaldo has dismissed the suggestion that the game was more important to the Italians.
"We have six points and no-one qualifies with just six points so we need to win the game," he said.
"It's a very big game and whoever wins the match will get a huge boost. We are at home and we have to try and win, we know Juve are strong and they will be hurt after losing to Fiorentina, but we have to play our football and be focused, that's the only way we'll win. If we get to nine points, we'll be very close to qualifying."

Ronaldo was also asked about stories that emerged in the Italian media this week that he had been close to joining Juventus before he signed for Manchester United in the summer of 2003, aged 18.
"According to the press, I have been close to signing for every club," he added.
"People can say what they want but the only team I signed for when I was 18 was Manchester United. It's a good thing that so many teams wanted to sign me when I was 18 years old, many teams wanted me and Juventus was one of them, but United and Alex Ferguson gave me the biggest guarantee that they would help me grow as a player. Many clubs were interested, but the one I liked the most was Manchester United."

With the exception of Xabi Alonso, Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has a full squad to choose from, meaning Raphael Varane and Karim Benzema, who both missed the win over Malaga on Saturday with injuries, could return to the starting line-up.
