While qualification for the Round of 16 is not in question for either Bayern Munich or Manchester City, their clash on Tuesday is one of the highlights of the penultimate day of the UEFA Champions League group stage.
Both sides are already through to the next round, with the just the winner of Group D yet to be determined.
Bayern Munich is in the driver’s seat. They lead the group by three points, and currently hold the goal tiebreakers. In order to leapfrog the German side, Manchester City needs a three-goal victory of any score line, or a two-goal win in which they score more then four goals. Either outcome would make up for City’s 3-1 defeat at home to Bayern back in October.
Anything other than those two results mean Bayern wins the group with City finishing in second. Given how the first meeting went, it is not surprise that Bayern is favored by a goal at the LVH SuperBook in Las Vegas.
Other places still up for grabs
Manchester United is also already through to the Round of 16, but they can still affect the rest of Group A. United hosts Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk, who currently sit second. If Donetsk wins, they clinch their spot in the next round. Anything less than a victory means that German side Bayer Leverkusen can pass Donetsk with a win.
At home, United is favored by a half-goal over Donetsk. Meanwhile, Leverkusen is a half-goal favorite on the road over Real Sociedad, who sit at the bottom of the group with just one point.
In Group B, Real Madrid has already locked up the top spot. However, second place is on the line when Juventus travels to Istanbul to face Galatasaray. Juventus is currently in second with six points, meaning a draw will be enough for them to advance. Galatasaray, in third with four points, need a victory to ensure their place in the Round of 16.
The teams drew in the first meeting in Italy, 2-2. Juve is the half-goal favorite for Tuesday's contest.
In the other Group B match, Real Madrid is favored by a goal over FC Copenhagen. Though Copenhagen could finish second on points with Galatasaray or Juventus with an upset win, they cannot advance over either side due to tiebreakers.
Finally in Group C, Paris Saint-Germain have clinched qualification. But the second spot is still up for grabs with Olympiacos and Benfica each with seven points. Olympiacos is a goal-and-a-half favorite against Anderlecht, who have managed just a single point in the group stage. Benfica is also favored, by a half-goal, against PSG.
